Tree-to-Bar Chocolate Workshop
For the Curious & CreativeRelease Your Inner Chocolatier
At Hacienda La Danesa, chocolate begins long before the first taste.
Our Tree-to-Bar Chocolate Workshop invites guests into the full story of cacao—from the living tree to the final handcrafted bar. It is one of the most immersive ways to understand the farm and the agricultural roots of Ecuador’s most celebrated export.
The experience begins in the cacao plantation, where guests walk among the trees and learn how cacao is grown, harvested, and cared for. You will open fresh cacao pods by hand, taste the fruit straight from the source, and discover how fermentation, drying, and roasting shape flavor long before chocolate is ever made.
From there, the workshop moves into the hands-on process of transforming cacao into chocolate: grinding, tempering, molding, and tasting.
It is sensory, interactive, and surprisingly technical—equal parts education and indulgence.
Guests often leave with a deeper appreciation for what real chocolate should taste like: less sweet, more complex, and deeply connected to place.
For families, it is unforgettable. For food lovers, it is essential.
And for many, it becomes one of the defining memories of their stay.
Chocolate tastes different when you know its story.
Especially when that story begins right beneath your feet.
*Please note this experience may be guided by the Chef or an assistant from the local community trained by our executive chocolatier.
